Summary analytical report “Life without cancer”

As part of the Comprehensive Plan to Combat Oncological Diseases in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the World Cancer Day, a decade-long event on the prevention and early detection of oncological diseases will be held in all regions of the country from February 1 to 10, 2024. The purpose of the decade is to raise awareness of the population in the prevention and early detection of cancer, as well as to inform the population about the need for timely screening examination.

In Kazakhstan, there are 3 types of screening for early detection of malignant neoplasms: cervical cancer screening (conducted among women aged 30 to 70 years 1 time in 4 years by taking a smear for cytological examination); breast cancer screening (conducted among women aged 40 to 70 years 1 time in 2 years by mammography); colon cancer screening (performed among men and women from 50 to 70 years of age 1 time in 2 years by determining the hidden blood in the stool). These screenings are carried out free of charge at the polyclinic at the place of attachment.

On 02/06/2023, a round table was organized in the polyclinic together with the oncologist of the Kostanay Oncological Multidisciplinary Hospital. We discussed important aspects of providing care to patients with tumor diseases. The possibilities of diagnosis, treatment and palliative care . In total, 918 people are registered at the polyclinic and EROB. 151 people were identified in 2023.

The events of the decade are also covered by the media. The Kazakhstan-Kostanay TV channel conducted a survey of patients on cancer awareness. The head of the prevention department Nurtazenova G.D. answered the questions of the channel’s correspondent. Cancer awareness is carried out at all stages of admission to the clinic. The polyclinic carries out information and explanatory work and measures for the prevention of oncology with coverage on the website and on social networks. All specialists conduct lectures, talks and participate in the open day.

On February 7, 2024, an open day was held in the KGP “Polyclinic No. 2 of Kostanay city” for timely diagnosis of oncopathologies and subsequent successful treatment, the population received a free qualified consultation from an oncologist in room 405. Patients identified with suspected precancerous and cancerous diseases are referred for further follow-up examination.

In the lobby of the polyclinic and offices, medical workers held talks about the prevention of cancer, about how important it is to undergo regular screening examinations. Brochures, booklets, and leaflets on the topic “Early diagnosis of oncological diseases” were distributed.

We would like to draw attention to the fact that on October 5, 2023, the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan adopted a comprehensive plan to combat oncological diseases for 2023-2027, according to which it is planned to introduce a vaccination program against human papillomavirus for 11-year-old girls with the phased inclusion of older girls. HPV vaccines are generally safe and do not cause serious side effects. They are approved for use in more than 100 countries. It has long been known that the cause of cervical cancer is the human papillomavirus. The only effective way to prevent this disease is vaccination. In our country, the vaccination campaign begins in the second half of 2024
